Invar36® is a 36% nickel-iron alloy that has a rate of thermal expansion approximately 1/10 that of carbon steel up to 200° C. It is typically used in applications where dimensional changes due to temperature must be minimal such as radio and electronics, aircraft controls and laser systems, etc. It has also been used in combination with high expansion alloys where motion is desired during temperature changes for bimetallic thermostats and temperature regulators.
H. Cross Company can provide Invar36 in wire, ribbon, strip, sheet and foil sizes to suit your particular needs. Please refer to our Typical Dimension and Tolerances page for general size ranges of products.
